Bengkulu Utara: Malaria Progamm

Today we went to North Bengkulu subdistrict of Bengkulu to monitor the American Red Cross Anti Malaria Programm. The ARC distributes Malaria nets and does training with local volunteers and PMI staff.

Each volunteer goes from house to house and visits about 60 homes in order to check on the status of mosquito nets and talks about preventive measures wit the people. Targeted people are pregnant woman, children and seniors.

The staff from the office in Bengkulu city checked on the progress, watched some of the local meetings.

The trip took us all day, because the road was not so great, but nevertheless very intresting.

Preparation for the National Disaster Drill

Preparation for the National Disaster Drill

On December 78th and 9th there will be the National Disaster Drill here in Indonsia. The Red Cross here in Bengkulu will have a variety of activities: a command post (Posco) exercise, an evacuation team, field kitchen and a Medical Action Team (MAT).

As far as planned up to now, I’ll help with the MAT, yesterday we had the first exercise for the Drill and tried to erect the big PMI tent, the colour is much nicer then those we have (they are all olive green). „Preparation for the National Disaster Drill“ weiterlesen

Remarks welcoming the Korean Students to Freiburg

Remarks welcoming the Korean Students to Freiburg

12.08.2009 9:30 Rathaus Aula

Welcome to green city, I have prepared some remarks and hope to tell you about our city a little

Scientific analysis has shown that ¾ of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the city of Freiburg are caused by the energy sector and approximately ¼ by the traffic.

In 1996 the city council of Freiburg passed a resolution to reduce the CO2 emissions by 25% of the 1992 level by the year 2010, obviously we have not reached that target, so we passed an even more ambitious plan: in 2007 the we defined a new very ambitious long-term reduction–goal for 2030 by 40 %. A recent evaluation for the year 2005 led to the result, that Freiburg reduced its CO2-emmissions by  7.3 % in all and by 13 % per capita.
