Resto Bengkulu some reviews

After now living 4 months in Bengkulu City, here in the province of Bengkulu, I would like to give some advise on the restaurants that exist here. This is not a complete guide – just a simple way to give something back to the expat comunity. 🙂

Despite the fact, that this city is not so big and has only limited bule influence, there are quite a lot good restos. „Resto Bengkulu some reviews“ weiterlesen

Logistics Training

One example of the power point slides / Pemantauan = Monitoring

Actually I don’t want to write so much about the logistics training. Again it was intresting to see how Indonesian Red Cross does things and what they teach. In the meantime I started to have 8 hours of language training each week and this increaesed my ability to speak, so that I can at least understand the people in the office and in the bus. But for more elaboarte language such as sms, facebook comments or more specialised things like a seminar about a particular toppic its still not enough.

send me three more tents please

With the 90 hours that German Red Cross funded we were not able to to any meanigful work and how wonder, just imagine to send someone who learned 90 hours of German to a GRC Branch and expect meaningful work to be done.

Melbourne

Melbourne Trams
Melbourne Trams

I was in Melbourne, sadly only for two days, but I still feel my sore feet. Melbourne is a great and comopolitan city, that I can recommend for a visit. It feels like a Australian version of Montreal, very cosmopolitan and very open minded.

My great host Cr. Oke from the Greens took me out for the Comedy Festival, something we should really have in Freiburg as well. And I meet a couple of Greens at a housewarming party.

Youth Red Cross Competition

Painting for PMRLast weekend we had the big provincial youth red cros competition. 45 schools from all across Bengkulu Province most of them with 20 students each competed in their knowledge of Red Cross History, First Aid Skills and Disaster Prepardness. Despite that the programm inculded a game show, a talk show to have interaction with the board and information from the sponsors the Bank of Indonesia.

The students are aged 11- 16 years and are member of one of the Yout Red Cross clubs in the schools. German Red Cross runs a school based disaster prepardness programm here in the province and many schools benefit from this as well.

Bapelkas

From 12th until the 16th of December I was at extended First Aid course in Bengkulu at a instituion called Bapelkas. A boardinghouse specially for health related professionals and instituttions.

We were allowed to help a little with teaching and used the actors cards and our presentation about GRC, too.

Interestingly the current advice from PMI Pussat is to not put people into coma position if they have a broken extremity or a spinal injury. Frankly I was shocked by it and its contrary to everything we are taught in Germany. Bandaging and versorgen of broken bones is practised with planks and triangular bandages. A technique in which I’m not good, I have to admit. But at least this lets Xray Radiation through and the material is cheap. Because PMI is not as well equiped as GRC and sometimes stretchers are in short supply.

Evaluation and Monitoring Seminar

Last weekend we were at the Evaluation and Monitoring Seminar for PMI here in the province. Although we didn’t understand a lot because most of the stuff was in Indonesian, but it seemed to be a lot of things I had at PH Freiburg previously. We have a very nice video as well.

In the evening we went celebrating my birhthday by going to the Cinema and on Monday we had some Karaoke.
