Freiburgs New Augustiner Museum

I had the chance to get an exclusive tour by the head of the Augustinermuseum Mr. Stockhausen with some of the former councilors. When I was on the city council the renovation and some budget overrans were controversial, especially since it was a time in which we had to make budget cuts in other aeras and tried to renovate a lot of Freiburgs run down schools. „Freiburgs New Augustiner Museum“ weiterlesen

Mobile Internet Acsess with Telkomsel and Huawei E220

Some time ago I managed to get mobile Internet with my old Huawei E220 and a turn on telkomsel SimPati Prepaid account. I had some help from the nice ladies at the Telkomsel shop here in Bengkulu. Telkomsel is much better then German Telekom, you get served and technical advise by the stuff!

One precondition is that they turn on the 3G option of your simcard, which is not on normally. You can either ask at the Telkomsel shop or do this via sms.

Curup Tourism

What is there to visit in Curup. Curup is not as hot as Bengkulu and enven more Indonesian, meaning there foreigners and tourists will be even a bigger event for the locals. So be prepared to be asked many questions and stared at. Its just there are so few foreigners, people its very exceptionally to see them.

You can reach Curup well by Travel (see BHW Travel on Bengkulu section) and there seems to be even an nearby Airport which has flights four times a day from and to Jakarta to Lubulingau. Costing 625000 IDR for the Jakarta route.

The major tourist attraction is the Waterfall and Hot Springs where you can have a really hot bath. Besides you can go for hikes and explore the mountain scenery. As a tourist you are an even more attraction and the people here have their own dialect and even old system of writing. Tulisan_Traditisonal (PDF)

Bengkulu Tourism

Repeatedly Friends ask me if there are any tourist attractions in Bengkulu. Well there are not a lot, and certainly we cannot compete with Cities like Bandung or even places like Lombok. But here we go:

Fort Malborough

is one of the surviving structures stemming from the time Bengkulu and all of south Sumatra was in the hands of the British. And during its best times was as large as Fort Georg ein Madras. Recently it has undergone some renovatiosn due to the visit of SBJ (mostly repainted)

SAR exercise

SAR Excercise 1The last days we had Mountain Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise in a little village up the mountains from Curup. Its even colder there then „down“ in Curup and all the Bengkulu people constantly keeps complaining about how cold it was. And wore thick jumpers, while I thought its just like maybe a normal early spring day or autumn day. In the night I was glad to have borrowed a sleeping bag and a field-bed (indonesian: veldbett). „SAR exercise“ weiterlesen
