Da ich in letzter Zeit viel auf Englisch gepostet habe, nun mal ein Auszug aus dem Newsletter auf deutsch:

Arbeit in Curup

Inzwischen habe ich mit Jerome getauscht und wohne in den Bergen in Curup, ca 4 h von Bengkulu mit dem Auto entfernt. Hier ist es sehr viel kühler als unten am Strand. Dabei ist es auch noch viel ländlicher und die Leute sind noch mehr überrascht Ausländer zu sehen. Aber sie lassen sich nicht so viel fotografieren, als Jerome hergezogen ist muß es noch schlimmer gewesen sein. Stellenweise hatte er Angst Verkehrsunfälle zu verursachen weil ihm die Leute so viel nachgestarrt haben.

Demnächst muß ich auch mal über die touristischen Möglichkeiten dieser bergigen Kleinstadt schreiben, schließlich habe ich inzwischen zwei Lieblingsrestaurants dort.

Its even colder there then „down“ in Curup and all the Bengkulu people constantly keeps complaining about how cold it was. And wore thick jumpers, while I thought its just like maybe a normal early spring day or autumn day. Our trip back from the South-East-Asian Youth Red Cross meeting was a four day adventure in itself.

We went from Batam near Singapore with a Ferry to the ferry port for Pekanbaru, then took a bad road in an old bus to Pekanbaru itself, there we staid a night in the Ibis hotel, bought a laptop for a friend in Bengkulu, then continued our journey on to Bukittingi by „travel“ a Toyota Kijang we shared with 7 passengers.

Chummy macht auf!

Mit großer Freude habe ich in der Online Ausgabe der Badischen Zeitung gelesen, dass Chummy seine Pforten für die Jugend geöffnet hat und demnächst auch offiziell eingeweiht wird. Damit geht für die Engagierten rund um den Betzenhausener Arzt und Bürgervereinsvorstand Thomas Hammerich ein langes und schwieriges Kapitel zu Ende.

In meiner Zeit im Gemeinderat wurden mindestens drei Lösungen diskutiert und verworfen: Untergeschoss der Anne-Frank-Schule (zu teuer + Anwohner), Brielmangelände (nicht in Betzenhausen-Bischoffslinde) und Sportfreunde Eintracht (Wiederstand der Vereinsmitglieder gegen Jugendzentrumsjugendliche) Es ist diesem unermüdlichen und manchmal auch für die Politiker nervigen Einsatz zu verdanken, das Chummy auch gegen Wiederstände durchgesetzt werden konnten. „Chummy macht auf!“ weiterlesen

Batam Youth Camp

Tomorrow we will start our overland trip back home to Bengkulu and for me its time to write a little about PMI Batam Youth Camp. For the first time its not the national headquarters of PMI but one of the regional Branches that has held this event. And for the first time its not only people from Indonesia but Red Cross from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and even we two Germans.Which felt quite weird, to represent this big Red Cross with only two people who had to be facilitator, staff, volunteer and head of delegation all the same time.

PMI Batam Youth Camp

Today we are on the way to Batam a island south of Singapore that belongs to Indonesia’s Riau proince. PMI will have a youth meeting with youth from all over Indonesia and the neigboring countries Red Cross societies. The theme of the meeting will be: Diversity in culture, one in action
