We had this very inspiring Poetry Seminar by the Oregonian Poet and Friend of Prof. Hesse at this cozy beach retreat in Seal Rock. Ingrid taught us to write poetry and she introduced us to some of her works as well. During her days with us, she had the first reading of her new book: „Evensong„. For this blog she read her poem:

From Boston to Seattle via Chicago (by train)

The grand voyage from coast to coast started on Monday, three nights ago in Boston. I had arrived by a crappy US Airways flight from Frankfurt via Philadelphia the night before. Before I left with the Lake Shore Limited to Chicago I deceided to visit the JFK Memorial. The picture was taken from the inside of the amazing building (Thanks I.M. Pei).

Then with the said Lake Shore Limited it took me about 22 hours to arrive in Chicago. For one night the reclinng seat was OK and you have plenty of space and all the Americans I met on the way were really niece.

A short break for lunch and a elevator ride up the Sears Tower was just the right thing to do in the 4 hours in between changing trains. I entered the Empire Builder and off we went for the two nights to Seattle, across an long an empty stretch of America. „From Boston to Seattle via Chicago (by train)“ weiterlesen

Bücher zum Lesen

Jetzt zum Sommer hat man ja viel Zeit zu lesen und sich in Ruhe so einiges durch den Kopf gehen zu lassen. Ich möchte hier zwei Bücher vorstellen die ich gelesen habe und nun auch jedem Empfehlen kann:

Anette Pehnt ist eine Deutsch Dozentin an der PH. Dieses Buch hat sie geschrieben um uns allen das Studium an dieser Eliteuniversität einfacher zu machen. From Tampere for Europe

The international youth council seminar in Tampere is over for more then an week now and for me it is time to write down a little bit what I experienced. There are some things I mentioned on previous blog posts as well, but this should be the last one.

From here a big thanks to the organisers at nuva ry. It is always difficult to organise such an europe spanning event, involving participants from Germany, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Finnland, Lithuania and bring them all togehter to do something. a total of about 40 young people. The participants were between 15-30 years old and work in the local youth local councils or similar democratically elected bodies. Already youth councils have a very strong foothold in several countries or regions in Europe exist umbrella organisations and other bodies.

Of course we didn’t only work, we had a lot of fun as well, the following video, which the finns all love is a testament to that:

Gute und intellektuelle Bücher für Jugendforschung

Man liest ja viel weil man als nur Student nicht so viel zu tun hat, und ich kann die folgenden Bücher empfehlen. Ich habe die Bücher für eine BSC Studentin gelsen, der ich gerade beim schreiben ihrer BSC Thesis helfe.

Researching with Children and Young People: Research Design, Methods and Analysis – ein sehr gutes, englisches Buch wie man mit Kindern und Jugendlichen forscht, über sie, mit ihnen. Auch mit guten Anleitungen und sehr gut zu lesen. Für Zula und andere Forschungen kann ich es nur empfehlen.

„Die Qualität qualitativer Daten. Manual für die Durchführung qualitativer Interviews“ von Cornelia Helfferich, der Frau von Gerhard Frey, einem Freiburger Grünen Stadtrat, ein nettes Buch um mal so Interviews und Befragungen zu planen.

Was ist Politik?: Fragmente aus dem Nachlaß. Herausgegeben von Ursula Ludz – Papier aus dem Nachlass von Hanna Arendt. Damit man auch immer was intellektuelles zu lesen hat im Sommer oder so.

Two week in Upsala on Comparative Education: some thoughts

I spent the last two weeks on a hugely interesting and stimulating seminar on comparative education in Uppsala, Sweden.

We studied in a very European atmosphere of students from Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Finland (or so), Denmark and Poland. Our lecturers came from Universities in this countries and Cyprus. So we had all the traps and possibilities shown so nicely by the auberge espaniol.

But of course we did study a lot and learn a lot, not only academically but because we had so many different styles of lecturers and so intensive discussions on the subjects with participants with very diverse backgrounds. Some oft hem going for teacher training others for more sophisticated approaches to education or more theoretical ones.

By the way, I blog this from a Swedish Rail X2000 that offers wireless internet free in every first class seat and for a small fee in the second class, on all routes not just on some like German Rail.

Swedish school system

Amongst others we had a very interesting presentation on the Swedish school system by Jessica Lindvert, Mats Wennerholm, Jenny Kallstenius from the Swedish national agency for schools (Skolverket). Skatepark Projekt für Freiburg update

Heute berichtet die Badische Zeitung über unser Skatepark für Freiburg Projekt:

Wie geht Demokratie ?

Jugendliche haben Plätze für einen Skatepark gesucht – und dabei in Rollenspielen viel gelernt.

ZÄHRINGEN. Braucht Freiburg einen neuen Skatepark? Und wenn ja, wo? Anna Willmann, Sarah Kolodzie und Ellen Kühner (alle 14) sind drei der Jugendlichen von sechs Klassen vier verschiedener Schulen, die darauf in Rollenspielen Antworten suchten. Ergebnis: Ihr Favorit für einen Skatepark wäre der ehemalige Alban-Stolz-Spielplatz in Zähringen. Vor allem aber haben sie beim „Projekt Skatepark für Freiburg“ mit den Studenten Sebastian Müller und David Ernst gelernt, wie Demokratie im Idealfall funktioniert.

Und wir hatten auch ein Termin mit einem Journalisten vom Chilimagazin, welcher Mitte August über unser Skatepark für Freiburg Projekt berichten will. Beim Fototermin am ZOB wo sonst immer geskatet wird, gab es diesmal leider keine Skater (Künstlerpech!) dafür haben wir ein schönes Bild vom neuen Skateverbotsschild.

Hier gibt es das ganze Projekt zum Download und Informationen wie man es mit seiner Klasse spielen kann.

Auf skatement.de gibt es mehr Informationen zur aktuellen Skatelage, inzwischen gibt es auch eine Facebook Gruppe die einen Skateplatz für Freiburg fordert. Skatement ist eine Gruppe Freiburger Skater und Skate-o-philer (daher Freunde der Skater) die sich für eine Verbesserung der Skatesituation in Freiburg einsetzt. Über die neue Website soll dann auch die Kommunikation mit der Community einfacher werden und auch die arbeit transparenter gestaltet werden. Grundsätzlich darf jeder Mitarbeiten und die Treffen sind öffentlich.

Liebe Klassen,

wir wollen uns auf diesem Wege noch einmal bei Euch für die Teilnahme an

unserem Rollenspiel „Skatepark für Freiburg“ bedanken. Wir hatten am Montag, den 25.7.2011 unsere Projektprüfung, in dieser haben wir das Projekt vorgestellt und Fragen unserer Prüfer beantwortet. Es traf auf Begeisterung und wir haben die Note 1,5 bekommen. Wir sind mit der Note mehr als zufrieden, denn diese Note wird auch in unser erstes Staatsexamen hineinzählen.

Viel wichtiger als eine gute Note, war aber auch die Motivation, welche wir durch die 6 Durchgänge gewonnen haben. Es hat richtig Spaß gemacht die Rollenspiele durchzuführen und zu sehen welche Lösungen ihr entwickelt. „Skatepark Projekt für Freiburg update“ weiterlesen

Rollenspiel: Skatepark für Freiburg

Wo könnte in Freiburg ein Skatepark stehen? Wie geht das eigentlich in einer Stadt wie Freiburg seine Interessen als Jugendlicher durchzusetzen? Wen muß man überzeugen und warum? Sind fragen um die sich das Projekt dreht.

Das Projekt besteht aus einem Rollenspiel, welches ca 90 min dauert und die Kommunalpolitischen Entscheidungswege hin zu einem Skatepark in Freiburg simuliert. Dabei haben die Autoren auf große Wirklichkeitsnähe geachtet und die Freiburger politischen Akteuere und Situation versucht nachzubauen.

Die Schülerinnen schlüpfen dabei in die Rollen der Skater, Anwohner, Gemeinderäte und Bürger Freiburgs die entweder für oder gegen einen Skatepark sind. Am Ende stimmt der Gemeinderat ab und entscheidet. „Rollenspiel: Skatepark für Freiburg“ weiterlesen
