Who sponsored PIPV bills in various US states and did they win or loose?

For me the important thing about the midterms is how did the sponsors of PIPV bills fare? The good news: Raymond Ward (R) Utah, did get relected to the Utah House of Representatives District 19 unopposed (!). Congrats for that!

On the federal level: Scott Wiener (D) leads in California District 11 but Associated Press has not called a winner, as only 51% of the votes are counted. However its unlikely the other democrat running in Downtown San Francisco will defeat him. He was instrumental in the Californian legislation.

Rob Menendez (D), New Jersey, District 8 has handily won his seat. He introduced the „Socket Full of Sunshine Act“ in the final days of the last Congress. That means this bill has died (all unfinished legislative business (bills, motions, inquiries, and petitions) expires automatically at the end of a legislative period) However there might be a new bill in a new congress with actual chances.

Election

Not up in 2026: Virginia and New Jersey elect legislators in odd years (their Assembly/House members were re-elected in Nov 2025). Several senators serve 4-year terms that run to 2028.

Sources: Bill status from Bright Saver, PluginSolarUS, PlugSolarHub and state legislature records. Election results from Decision Desk HQ, AP, state and county election offices, local news and Ballotpedia. Most official state results pages were not readable at the time of checking, so results may change during canvass and recounts.

Primary sponsors and named companion sponsors only; long co-sponsor lists are not included.
